Summary

The Office of Graduate Programs is seeking a currently enrolled international graduate student in any of our graduate programs to work as a Graduate Student Ambassador.  The selected student will be hired by UM-Flint to serve the following purposes:

Serve as a graduate student representative to newly admitted graduate students.  The Office of Graduate Programs will ask you to provide outreach to new international students electronically or via virtually.  Your correspondence may include such topics as:
-Coursework
-Your experience at UM-Flint
-The Flint community
-Activities for students
-Living arrangements
-Introduction of the new student to other students and/or faculty at UM-Flint

The pay rate for the Graduate Student Ambassador is $14.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications*

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Have completed at least 6 credit hours in your graduate program at the time of application
  • Hold a current F-1 visa
  • Overall graduate GPA of 3.0
  • Native language of English, or a score of 84 or better on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS or 110 Duolingo
  • Pleasant & outgoing demeanor
  • Enthusiasm to work with prospective students via email and potentially in-person
  • Willingness to work closely with the Graduate Programs office
  • Ability to positively represent the University of Michigan-Flint
  • Must provide the name of a faculty member in your graduate program who would be willing to attest to your performance in your program and recommend you as an International Graduate Student Ambassador. 

Applications will be reviewed immediately after the posting end date.  Selected candidates will be contacted to participate in a virtual selection interview, which will be scheduled according to each student's availability.  As a part of your interview, you will also be required to produce a writing sample which will be submitted to the Graduate Programs Office.
