Watershed Resilience Manager

Job Description

Operating Title

Watershed Resilience Manager

Long Classification Title

Project Director II

Campus Location

Durham

Department

UNH Marine Sciences and Ocean Engineering

Summary of Position

The Manager of the PREP Watershed Resilience Program (hereafter, “Manager”) has two explicit and overlapping functions: 1) Piscataqua Watershed Resilience: provide strategic coordination and implementation support to increase the resilience of the Piscataqua Watershed; and 2) implementation of the Great Bay Adapts Technical Assistance Program (GB Adapts). Each function is described below.

Piscataqua Watershed Resilience (60% of position)

There is currently an unprecedented opportunity to increase resources and effective collaboration for increasing watershed resilience. While many partners are currently engaged in this endeavor, there is additional need for strategic assessments of gaps and opportunities during this very dynamic time. Therefore, a component of the Manager’s job will be to compare highest priority activities to those activities that are taking place and, where discrepancies exist, strategize and help support implementation of gap-filling solutions.

Great Bay Adapts (40% of position)

The Great Bay Adapts initiative is part of a larger effort called Great Bay 2030, an effort to leverage philanthropic funding from the NH Charitable Foundation with the goal to advance a five-year vision for investment and action to protect the Great Bay Estuary. The Steering Committee identified five focal areas where collective attention, effective partnerships, and investment in the coming years is needed to achieve the vision and goals of Great Bay 2030. These focal areas are: Foster a Culture of Stewardship, Restore Critical Habitats, Enhance Water Quality and Quantity, Adapt to Climate Change, and Protect Priority Lands.

The Manager will lead the Adapts initiative, in partnership with a facilitator and Advisory Team, to support inland coastal watershed communities in taking transformative action towards a more equitable, regenerative, and resilient future in the face of a changing climate.
