If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated machine learning researcher to team with us in taking Intelligent Systems from concept to reality. We are a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers focused on achieving groundbreaking impact in the areas of machine learning, robotics, and assured autonomy. As a Reinforcement Learning Researcher on our team, you will develop machine learning methods that strengthen national defense and address other critical challenges facing our nation, from climate change to health care.

 

As Reinforcement Learning Researcher...

 

  • Your primary responsibility will be developing new deep reinforcement learning approaches for the control of autonomous systems. We are building algorithms that work in the real world: extending existing approaches, formulating new methods as necessary, and integrating our methods into broader control systems. Our current application areas include robot trajectory planning, dexterous manipulation, resource scheduling, and industrial process control.

 

  • You will help provide technical vision for multidisciplinary research teams.

 

  • You will contribute and lead technical proposals that define and grow our machine learning and robotics research programs.

 

  • You will communicate your research vision, results, and impact to sponsors and the broader scientific community through papers, presentations, and technical reports.

 


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Have Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field with a focus on machine learning for robotics applications.

 

  • Have 1+ year experince in defining research problems and identifying possible solutions.

 

  • Have recent experience in some combination of the following programming languages and tools: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenAI Gym, C++, MATLAB.

 

  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to articulate complex technical issues effectively and appropriately for a wide range of audiences.

 

  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.   • Have a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
