The Opportunity

The School of Global Health Management and Informatics (SGHMI) at the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE), invites applications for a tenure-earning assistant professor or a tenured associate professor position for the Health Care Informatics M.S. program, anticipated to begin August 2024.

The candidate will join SGHMI, which includes the nation’s largest graduate and undergraduate programs in Health Services Administration (HSA), an Executive Graduate Healthcare Management program (e-MSHSA), a fully online graduate program in Healthcare Informatics (HCI), and an undergraduate program in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM). The master’s in HCI is accredited by CAHIIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management), the master’s in HSA and baccalaureate in HIIM are accredited by CAHME (Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education) and CAHIIM, respectively and the undergraduate HSA program is certified by AUPHA (Association of University Programs in Health Administration). The position is a 9-month appointment with a competitive salary fully covered by budget with no soft money funding requirements. Faculty have the ability to supplement their salary by up to 30% with grant funding applied to summer appointments. Summer teaching appointments are often available but are not guaranteed and a variety of internal competitive research grants are typically available but also not guaranteed. Significant teaching takes place in a fully online format and the selected candidate is expected to become comfortable teaching online if they are not already. UCF has world renowned infrastructure and support for online teaching

The successful candidate will perform research and teaching in the area of healthcare informatics. Interdisciplinary scholarship and grant funding for research are encouraged. A candidate appointed with tenure at the associate professor rank will be expected to assume leadership roles in scholarship, grant application and management, program development as well as in mentoring junior faculty and graduate students. A successful senior candidate may be asked to assume a leadership role in developing a doctoral program in healthcare informatics. Salary is contingent upon experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Health Care Informatics, Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Services Administration, or a related health discipline from an accredited institution and industry or academic experience in health informatics research; or

  • A doctoral degree in Management Information Systems, Applied Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Epidemiology, or a related information technology discipline from an accredited institution and industry or academic experience in healthcare informatics.

For the rank of assistant professor:

The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree from an accredited institution (as indicated above) by the start of the appointment. ABD's will be considered if degree is conferred before the date of hire.

For the rank of associate professor:

The successful candidate must have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, documented research, externally funded projects/research, and excellence in teaching, commensurate with a tenured appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in one or more of the following areas:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning.

  • Biostatistics or a wide range of analytic disciplines including, but not limited to decision analysis, statistics, management science or operations research, or managerial economics.

  • Health data management including, but not limited to relational database design and use, data warehousing, health-specific data storage structures, data integration, data communication, or geographic information systems.

  • Systems analysis and design, workflow analysis and process improvement, decision support systems including clinical decision support, and/or evidence-based medicine.

In addition, preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in publishing high-quality research articles in top-tier international and national refereed journals or those who have completed a post-doc with an associated record of publication in the preferred research areas.
