Communications Specialist

Job Description


The Department of Classics is relaunching with a new undergraduate curriculum, a new minor, the first credit-bearing course in Greece in its history, a reformed graduate program and exciting new interdisciplinary research projects. It now needs a new Communications Specialist to ensure the news reaches targeted audiences.

 

We are seeking a creative and dynamic individual to increase our social media presence, highlight and promote the exciting, multifaceted work of our faculty members and students, engaging the academic community and and the public. In addition, the CS will be responsible for developing an integrated media strategy, writing/editing content for the website, digital newsletters and annual reports. The Communications Specialist must function as an effective liaison among department citizens, and serve as a bridge to the central University Communications office, by promoting the department's accomplishments through Princeton's core channels. Other responsibilities may include promoting events and executing successful e-mail marketing efforts.



Communications Management:

Develop an overall communications strategy for the Department. Evaluate the departments' inventory of existing content. Liaison with the university media team to identify effective strategies and platforms for news dissemination. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to produce high-quality written and visual content that promotes research and news, reach key audiences, help recruit the best doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and generally promote the department's accomplishments. Conceptualize, write and edit informational content for the department’s website, social media, annual newsletter, and other publications.

 

Event Management:

Plan and execute the named lectures, creating event promotion materials, and researching on effective e-marketing strategies. Oversee logistics for special events, workshops and seminars - especially high-visibility named lectures and searches. Given s/he/they would join a small office, s/he/they should also be prepared to assist the department manage with ad-hoc administrative duties, and help as needed also with daily tasks and miscellaneous office duties.



  • BA degree in relevant disciplines.
  • Knowledge of the academic content of the department required in order to report on lectures, symposiums.
  • Language proficiency in Latin and Greek strongly preferred. Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated track record in accurate content creation for social media platforms and/or publishing.
  • Capacity to create content for social media platforms with a track record of accuracy and discretion.
  • Clear plans for a departmental media strategy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in an academic environment
  • An understanding of the project of interdisciplinary scholarly investigation and teaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing and implementing communications strategies.
  • Event management experience
