  3. Familiarity with multiple social media platforms and best practices for using social media to engage audiences.
  4. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut, InDesign or Canva, and MailChimp.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relations skills.
  6. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. Understanding of the mission, vision, core values, and goals of a community college.
  9. Must work well in a team environment.
  10. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Essential Functions

The Content and Social Media Coordinator will collaborate actively with all members of the Marketing and Communications team, which includes the manager of creative services, the website manager, and the communications and public relations coordinator, to coordinate marketing and public relations campaigns that may include video, photography, print components, and social media. As needed, he/she also will support outreach and engagement efforts by the offices of Admissions, the Durham Tech Foundation, Student Services, and other college departments. He/she will share best practices with managers of other social media accounts on campus. This position also requires an awareness of the changing social media landscape and making recommendations as new platforms emerge.

Job Duties

  • Understand the inherent strengths (and risks) of various social media channels and use them to reach key audiences most effectively
  • Develop creative social media campaigns, short- and long-term engagement opportunities, and other strategies in support of the college’s public relations goals, building an editorial calendar that details day-by-day efforts to promote the college and the Durham Tech experience.
  • Use analytics to demonstrate campaign outcomes and create a roadmap for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of Durham Tech’s official social media accounts using best practices and interact effectively and appropriately with a wide variety of users.
  • Produce exceptional writing, photos, graphics, and videos that showcase Durham Tech, its students, programs, and progress, creating greater engagement with students and the community.
  • Create and coordinate original content that encourages current students, prospective students and families, alumni, employees, employers, community decision-makers, and the public to connect with the college.
  • Collaborate professionally with managers of other college social media accounts, modeling best practices and sharing expertise as required.
  • Assist with special events, including those occurring outside normal business hours.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively in a high-tech, high-speed environment where standards are high and accuracy is essential.
  • Develop, execute, and assess an annual social media content and engagement strategy aligned with the Marketing and Communication plan to enhance brand awareness for Durham Tech.
  • Assist with content and design for the monthly e-newsletter.
  • Backstop other members of the Communications and Marketing team when they need assistance in their respective areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Working Hours

A minimum of a 40-hour workweek as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-

$49,959 to $59,326
