Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking a full-time Architectural Technology faculty member to fill a position starting August 2023.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment, and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities.

Our program is highly regarded by transfer institutions and local employers for the excellence our students demonstrate academically and in the community. This is born out in the multiple national, state and local awards our students have won and the products of our collaborations with private clients and developers.  These successes could only be possible with a committed and dedicated full and part-time faculty.

The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses and instructs

courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • The faculty member will be expected to teach both lecture and studio classes in Architecture.
  • The selected faculty member will coordinate the Architecture discipline at the campus under the leadership of the Department Chair.
  • A teaching schedule may include day or evening classes.
  • Candidates must be willing to participate in mentoring, advising, articulation, and proactively arranging for internship opportunities for Architecture students.
  • As a part of the program full-time faculty are expected to develop and evaluate instructional materials, serve on campus and college committees, participate in grant and internship activities, assist in mentoring student club activities, and maintain an active personal program of professional development.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus).
  • Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools

Full Time Faculty duties include:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Assessment
  • Curriculum development
  • Advising
  • Professional inquiry
  • Committee work
  • Utilizing instructional technology

Coordinator duties include:

  • Cultivating and maintaining industry relationships.
  • Organizing and conducting topic specific workshops that enhance the visibility and integration of our students into transfer and employment opportunities.
  • Coordination and participation in national and local competitions (ie. AIA Student Design Competitions, NAHB National Construction Management Competitions, Maryland Sustainable Growth Challenge).
  • Service on local professional organizations (Academic Director, PVAIA)
  • Act as Advisor to the Student Architecture Club participating and organizing events in conjunction with the Office of Student Life.
  • On-boarding new part-time faculty with curriculum content and classroom observation
  • Preparing semester schedule teaching assignments and coordinating with part time faculty.
  • Maintaining and cultivating articulation agreements with 4-year programs in Architecture
  • Act as program liaison to CCCAP (Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs)
  • Host (UMD, Morgan State, and Catholic University) Transfer Coordinator information sessions for our graduating students provide content for periodic update of website

Required Qualifications:

  • An MAarch or BAarch degree or higher in Architecture.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of professional work experience in the field
  • Must have teaching experience in Architecture
  • Must be currently licensed or seeking licensure through NCARB
  • Ability to integrate technology and classroom-related computer software into course delivery
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academic success.
  • Familiarity with tabletop modeling tools and ability to instruct students in the safe use of those tools (band saws, drill press, sanders, scroll saw, joiner planar, table saw etc).
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Hiring Range is $62,319 to $91,218, annually.

  • A candidate on Optional Practical Training (OPT) is not eligible for this position.
