Staff Associate, Human Resources

Job Description

Provides administrative support services to the Vice President and staff assigned to the Human Resources Department. Oversee completion of all administrative tasks related to the daily operations of the Department. The Staff Associate's role will emphasize advocacy for current and potential faculty and staff through problem-solving, decision-making, and accessing of internal and external resources.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the department in all activities related to institutional mission, goals, and strategic plan; assist with the development of programmatic initiatives, implementation of policy and procedure, and management of projects.
  • Prepares materials for the Board of Trustee packages and Division reports.
  • Manage all administrative tasks and technical responsibilities related to the Department.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring they complete the necessary paperwork, receive orientation materials, and understand company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of department and college-wide events.
  • Complete and process unemployment claims, dispute claims and attend unemployment hearings as needed.
  • Responsible for all employee files, creating new employee files, pulling terminated files, and daily filing is done in accordance with department procedures. Manage work of part-time file clerk.
  • Maintain and send monthly AFSCME and MCCC reports to local Union Stewards.
  • Process CORI/SORI background checks on all new hires and update tracking spreadsheet.
  • Create, send and track re-appointment letters and annual contracts for non-tenured staff and faculty.
  • Responds to inquiries of a highly sensitive and complex nature.
  • Investigate routine complaints and report to Vice President or Director in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate an exemplary level of confidentiality in all faculty and staff personnel matters.
  • Assist VP and Director in coordinating all grievance meetings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Attend internal and external meetings when appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, and five years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of office management experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
  • Must be critical thinking, sound decision-making, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology-related software.
  • Able to work independently and cooperatively within the college community.
  • Candidate should be an excellent communicator.
  • Experience interacting with a culturally diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience using higher education software such as Banner and Argos.
  • Excellent time management skills, be able to meet deadlines, have flexibility.
  • Experience in a Human Resources office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a Community College setting.

Additional Information:

Position Status: Non-unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.

Hours: 37.5 per week

Salary: $57,000 - $68,000 (annually), commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments may include all Massasoit sites. The main Human Resources office is located on the Canton Campus.
