Temporary Resilience and Sustainability Analyst

Job Description

Florida International University’s Sea Level Solutions Center in the Institute of Environment is working on two major projects that would benefit from the assistance of a resilience and sustainability analyst. Our ‘Southeast Florida Citizen Science Climate Action Network’ is a program centered around collecting data on extreme heat and flooding. The ‘Resilient305 Collaborative’ is the resilience research hub for Greater Miami & the Beaches; here we dive into different data and metrics to better understand resilience within our community.

The Sea Level Solutions Center seeks qualified individuals to assist with data research, aggregation, analysis, and visualization for both projects (responsibilities listed below). This is a primarily remote position that is paid ($12.00 - $16.00 per hour, commensurate with course work completed and previous work experience). The position is part-time to full-time. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with resilience and sustainability data analysis, including resilience metrics.
  • Assist with data management resulting from citizen science activities.
  • Reports to and works with postdoctoral analyst on spatial analysis and historical trends.
  • Assist in spatial data and GIS map development.
  • Help coordinate and support in-person community events.
  • Meet on a weekly basis.
  • Draft written materials including summary findings and reports.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Temporary

  • Must be earning or completed a degree in environmental sciences, sustainability, or engineering.
  • Experience with data research, collection, and/or aggregation.
  • Ability to compare, analyze, and report on data findings and trends.
  • Ability to work independently and add value to their work beyond initial assignment.
  • Couse work or other documented experience with GIS.
  • Completion of one or more Statistics courses preferred.
  • Ability to design visually interesting reports and graphics preferred. Samples appreciated.

High school diploma with four (4) years of experience or two (2) years of post-secondary education with one (1) year of experience.

Mon to Fri

 

$12-$16/hr

Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), a temporary employee who works on average 30 hours or more per week may be eligible to enroll in health care benefits.
