(Internal Recruitment to CA&ES Faculty Only) Darrell Corti Endowed Professorship in Food, Wine, and Culture
Darrell Corti Endowed Professorship in Food, Wine, and Culture will support research pertinent to food, wine, and culture. The holder of the Darrell Corti Endowed Professorship in Food, Wine, and Culture will be a tenured faculty member in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The Darrell Corti Endowed Professorship in Food, Wine, and Culture is a non-renewable, single 5-year term appointment, and shall rotate every five years between the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) and the College of Letters and Science (L&S), starting in CAES. It is expected that the holder of the endowed professorship will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.
The holder of the Corti Professorship will be expected to advance scholarly work in the humanities and social sciences at UC Davis, including research, curriculum development and leadership, and public outreach in the exploration and understanding of the cultural aspects of food and wine in California, the U.S. and around the world. This is accomplished through activities in the following areas:

  • Teach a normal load for the department in which the faculty member is appointed.
  • Provide innovation and leadership in research in the area of Food, Wine, and Culture and their intersection.
  • Be engaged in outreach activities that address the cultural aspects of food and wine in California and beyond.
  • Perform service to the appointee's home department and the broader community.
  • Provide leadership in developing the intersection of food and wine with human culture.
  • Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.
    The endowment payout will support the holder's efforts in research, teaching, outreach, and service through the support of students or other trainees, such as postdoctoral scholars, purchase research equipment or supplies, to support costs to participate in professional conferences, or costs associated with curricular development or public outreach. Funds may also be used to support but are not limited to: support for visiting scholars from around the world, lectureships and educational opportunities for students. It is expected that the holder of the endowed professorship will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.
    Professorship holder will present an annual report on the use of the Fund to the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences each academic year.
    Applicants must be members of the University of California, Davis, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the level of associate or full Professor at the time of appointment. They must be able to provide documented evidence of strong research ability and innovative approaches to scientific inquiry. They must have demonstrated ability and willingness to conduct an internationally recognized program of scholarly research pertinent to developmental nutrition, as well as demonstrated ability to teach effectively at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
