Job Description

Summary

One-year project aiming to study refactorings applied by actual developers in several projects hosted on GitHub (a source code hosting service for software development and version control).  This project will provide data to be used in future research on improving software quality.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Reading papers
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Regular meetings with the faculty advisors
  • Coding
  • Evaluating the results
  • Writing papers as appropriate
  • Giving presentations as appropriate

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be a current of University of Michigan-Flint undergraduate student or recently graduated from a UM-Flint undergraduate program and not currently enrolled in a graduate program
  • Must be very familiar with Java or Python programming languages, i.e., object-oriented programming, arrays, collections, loops, etc.
  • Must be interested in the use of optimization algorithms in the technology field

Desired Qualifications*

Teamwork, communication, and time management skills preferred.

Work Schedule

Project begins during the spring 2023 term and is expected to continue for at least one year.  Most of the work will be completed remotely, but some time on the UM-Flint campus may be required.

Background Screening
