PROGRAM ASST (STUDENT/WORKSTUDY) - Arts & Culture Cluster

University of Michigan

Job Description

Summary

The Arts & Culture Research Cluster focuses on public engagement in creative practice and scholarship as a means to create positive social impact. Over the last year the cluster has strengthened our relationships with regional community organizations and cultural institutions. We’ve launched two artist residencies and developed projects and workshops with a host of community groups. This year's focus is on Riverbank Arts, a community space for the arts, located on the first floor of the Northbank Center. We see Riverbank Arts as a connector to the community, Downtown Flint, the campus community. We are currently in the planning stages for a full community-engaged exhibition at Riverbank Arts for 2022-2023. This includes a collaboration with UM Stamps Gallery, an exhibition of work from the Beirut design collective Studio Safar, an exhibition of work from the Juvenile Justice Center (and a proposed interdisciplinary curriculum pending funding from The Arts Initiative), a Common Read exhibition, and a proposed exhibition with Dylan Miner, Dean of MSU’s Residential College, among others. The Cluster will also be supporting guest artists, lectures, and performances proposed by A+C faculty in Theater, Music, and English. Finally, we will continue to develop the cultural calendar app with the Greater Flint Arts Council, and continue to seek funding and grant opportunities for new initiatives.
