Postdoctoral Research Associate

Job Description

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to support Dr. Daramola’s research laboratory in the development of electrochemistry/electrochemical engineering approaches to wastewater and polymer remediation on Northeastern’s Boston Campus. Our laboratory values diversity and expects all lab members to foster a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Characterizing the impact of electrochemical stimuli in liquid-phase environments at ambient or elevated temperatures by measuring the system’s response
  • Synthesizing and testing catalysts for electrochemical analyses in these same phases for improved performance
  • Conducting analyses on products or outputs due to these electrochemical stimuli and electrocatalysis.
  • Assisting in development of project reports to the funding agencies as well as peer-reviewed journal manuscripts and presentations/posters for dissemination of research results.
  • Assisting with proposal development for funding opportunities and report development for funded opportunities
  • Providing oversight and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate researchers

It is expected that the postdoctoral associate will develop and execute a career development plan in coordination with the PI.

About our lab: The overarching goal in our laboratory is to remediate and produce using computational, chemical and electrochemical techniques (REPRODUCE). To achieve this goal, we are working in areas that include electrified wastewater remediation, polymer upcycling and thermoset composites.

Qualifications:

Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in chemical or material science and engineering with previous experience in liquid-phase electrochemistry; be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar. All candidates should describe how they support a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment inside and outside the laboratory. This position requires excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and scientific, oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary, and multi-project environment. The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience with liquid and gas phase analytical techniques such as gas, liquid and ion chromatography. Experience with catalytic materials characterization techniques such as x-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy, or similar techniques.
