The Opportunity

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is pleased to invite applications for a tenure earning assistant professor or tenured associate professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders to begin August 2023. The successful candidate will join a diverse faculty and staff in a dynamic university with high research activity (RU/H) and a robust clinical program.  They will establish a strong research program, obtain external funding for research or service programs, teach academic and clinical courses to graduate and undergraduate students, advise and mentor students, direct student research and participate in school, college, university, community, and national service. 

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, founded in 1969 and accredited in 1987, is one of four schools/departments in the College of Health Professions and Sciences.  CHPS is also part of the Academic Health Sciences Center, including the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center, the College of Medicine, and the College of Nursing.  CSD is home to 26 full-time faculty members serving an average of 200 graduate and 700 undergraduate students.  We have a strong history of excellence in research, teaching, and community service and offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication sciences and disorders, with our speech-language pathology master’s program ranking in the top 25% of programs nationwide. The new addition of our CHPS Innovation Center provides exceptional opportunities for leveraging powerful, real-world simulation resources and expertise to advance interprofessional research, education, and practice while revolutionizing student education and future clinical practice. The successful candidate will establish a strong research program, obtain external funding for research or service programs, teach graduate/undergraduate academic and/or clinical courses, advise and mentor students, direct student research and participate in school, college, university, community, and national service.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline from an accredited institution at the time of application and be eligible for appointment as a tenure-earning assistant professor or tenured associate professor. To be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor upon hire, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A history of externally funded research, including federal and/or industry funding.

  • Research expertise in human auditory neuroscience and one or more of the following areas: computational modeling, speech perception, perception of real and virtual space, machine learning, the intersection of cognition and communication.

  • Training and experience in digital signal processing of sound.

  • Experience working with older adults with communication disorders.

  • History of collaboration with university, clinical, and industry research teams.

  • Demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness, including computational methods, neuroscience and communication, cognitive neuroscience.
