The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time General Counselor for Chabot College.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide comprehensive counseling services to students including academic, career and personal counseling on a drop-in and appointment basis.
- Develop, implement and coordinate counseling and matriculation services for students.
- Provide orientations and workshops to groups on various counseling topics, i.e., rules and regulations, college procedures and transfer process.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators and students; compose clear and concise correspondence, communicate effectively and make effective oral presentations in a variety of settings.
- Work with minimal supervision; accept flexible work schedule that may include evenings or other alternative scheduling as needed; and, perform related duties as assigned.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Counseling or Vice President of Student Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.
Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.
Desirable Qualifications
- At least one year of counseling experience within a community college or higher education setting.
- Experience aiding students to resolve personal problems that adversity affect achievement.
- Previous experience with academic, career and personal counseling and advisement to include experience with word processing, database management, presentation software and student informationsystems.
- Experience working with vocational and transfer students in a collegesetting.
- Knowledge of the Guided Pathways program, Student Success Team structure and supports, and the use of data to support student success through proactive student supportinterventions.
- Bilingual skills (i.e. Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Farsi, Hindi, Vietnamese, etc.)
