The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Botany for the Biology Department at Las Positas College, a community college located in Livermore, CA. This class will be offered in a hybrid modality.  Lectures will be half asynchronous online, and half in person.  Labs will be fully in-person.

 

Course Description:

Diversity, structure and function of plant, fungal, and protistan phyla. Topics include development, morphology, physiology and systematics. Principles of population and community ecology and ecosystem interactions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Instructor responsible for 3 hours of lecture and 6 hours of lab per week. The class would have up to 24 students.
  2. Responsible for using the assigned textbook and delivering the content as specified in the course outline.
  3. Responsible for working with other Botany faculty and Lab Tech staff to coordinate multiple sections on the same lab schedule.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in any biological science OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Ideal candidates will have community college experience or experience being the instructor of record in lower division courses.
  2. Experience teaching botany at a community college.
