Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR). ARLIS seeks to hire an Economic Research Analyst to support the Acquisition and Industrial Security (A&IS) Mission Area. We seek talented professionals who can work with a team to support the research, construction, implementation, test, documentation, and maintenance of socio-technical solutions that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community. Specifically, much of our work focuses on policy and implementation relating to manufacturing, data and knowledge engineering, model-based systems engineering, digital supply chains, and library science.

The Economic Research Analyst’s responsibilities include:
  • Develop, identify, and apply appropriate statistical models and empirical techniques to analyze and assess the potential impact of financial, economic, political, and technological developments
  • Draft reports, presentations, and articles based upon analyses of data, published studies, and specialized knowledge of the economy, government policies, technology, and other areas relevant to evaluating risks to the U.S. industrial base.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in business, economics, industrial engineering, public policy, or a related field.

Experience:
Experience doing statistical or econometric analysis using tools such as STATA, R, Python, or similar languages.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong Analytical skills.
  • Strong communications, presentation, and writing skills.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience performing cost-benefit, statistical/econometrics, or other quantitative analyses to assess industry response to changing regulatory requirements.
  • Experience developing analytical methods, databases, and models (e.g., in Excel, R) to quantify costs, benefits, or other regulatory impacts.
  • 0-3 years of experience in at least one area of economics research, development, or analysis, such as policy framework development, competition analysis, externalities analysis, or market stabilization modeling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range of peers, stakeholders, and audiences.
  • Active security clearance.
