Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR). ARLIS seeks to hire an Industrial Control Systems/Operational Technology Specialist to support the Acquisition and Industrial Security (A&IS) Mission Area. We seek talented professionals who can work with a team to support the research, construction, implementation, test, documentation, and maintenance of socio-technical solutions that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community. Specifically, much of our work focuses on policy and implementation relating to manufacturing, data and knowledge engineering, model-based systems engineering, digital supply chains, and library science.
The Industrial Control Systems/Operational Technology Specialist’s responsibilities include:
- Conducting analysis and research to support project development and execution.
- Implementing prototype hardware-based operational-technology environments for testing, evaluation, and demonstration.
- Developing written reports and briefing materials for stakeholders and customers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields.
Experience:
Experience:
Experience maintaining operational technologies (e.g., programmable logic controllers, supervisory control and data acquisition software, and distributed control systems).
Kowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Knowledge of cybersecurity for critical infrastructure systems in a variety of domains.
- Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.

- Practical experience working in critical infrastructure domains (e.g., manufacturing, public utilities, defense).
- Experience designing, architecting, and building any of the following technologies: PLC, SCADA, IIoT, HMI, MES, etc.
- Documented research experience specific to industrial control systems/operational technologies either as part of academic activities (e.g., dissertation) or professional experience.
- Active security clearance.
