We are seeking an Educational Specialist to join the APL Education Center. You will support the operations of several programs including Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Civil Engineering and Financial Mathematics within the Engineering for Professionals Program (EP) and lifelong learning activities at APL.  The APL Center is a collaborative effort between APL and the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering for delivering graduate-level education through EP.  The position requires extensive interactions with instructors, students, and the Whiting School EP staff.

 

As an Educational Specialist, you will...

 

  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the following programs: Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Civil Engineering and Financial Mathematics within the Engineering for Professionals Program (EP) and lifelong learning activities at APL.
  • Follow tasking from the program chairs and utilize your experience and background to develop the work product or solution to JHU Lifelong Learning activities at APL and involving the APL-based programs.
  • Collect and maintain statistics related to applications, enrollment, and graduation. Participate in routine graduation reviews. Maintain program mailing lists and program related catalog contents.
  • Draft input for annual up-date of the catalog. You will also oversee Degree Audit rules.
  • Coordinate advising, track, program committee meetings and technical talks.
  • Screen faculty applicants and coordinate interviews and hiring process.
  • Interface with faculty and advisers to help them meet requirements.
  • Interact with students & potential students regarding program questions and assistance. 
  • Recommend scheduling adjustments and generate schedule. Coordinate with EP staff and with faculty on cancelations, additions, and faculty salaries.
  • Recommend online development candidates and coordinate the cohort process.
  • Draft EP correspondence for the Program Chairs. Participate in meetings with chair, program managers, and the Program Committee.
  • Other tasks as required to grow the Robotics, Civil Engineering and Financial Mathematics Programs and Lifelong learning activities.
  • Support JHU EP events (semi-annual faculty meetings, holiday events, etc.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the position if you have:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business Administration or a similar field and practical experience in an education environment or Associates Degree combined with equivalent work experience.

 

  • 5+ years work experience.

 

  • Experience with MS EXCEL, WORD and PowerPoint.

 

  • The ability to operate as a privileged user/administrator in the JHU tools including SIS, Box, MS Teams, Zoom, and Canvas.

 

  • The demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and meet deadlines.

 

  • Highly organized and process oriented.

 

  • Have the ability to independently analyze, summarize and make recommendations on process, procedures, and program related activities.

 

  • Ability to interact with others using discretion and tact.

 

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

  • The ability to handle sensitive student and faculty information with the utmost discretion.

 

  • Experience with any of the following educational technology tools: Canvas, Blackboard, Zoom or SIS.

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

  • Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and meet deadlines.

 

  • The ability to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

 

  • A Master's Degree in Education.

 

  • Experience in supporting graduate level education at a major university or college.  

 

  • Experience with the JHU EP program preferred.

 

Special Working Conditions:


Regular working hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with a half-hour lunch break. Some pre-planned changes in hours maybe necessary to accommodate special classes or instructional activities. Occasional trips to the Homewood Campus (Baltimore, Maryland) of the Johns Hopkins University are anticipated.
