Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The AD-EIP is responsible for leading, developing and implementing programs that educate and engage the international community at University of Maryland (faculty, students, alumni), enacting the OIA-ISSS commitment to DEI.

The AD-EIP will lead the planning, coordination, and assessment of programs and events that aim to support the engagement and inclusion of students and faculty with the University. Partnering with University constituents the AD-EIP will be responsible for program development, management and initiatives that support the University’s strategic plan and the OIA mission.

The AD-EIP must be well organized, attentive to detail, highly skilled at organizational effectiveness, possess excellent communication skills and supervisory skills. The AD-EIP will perform sensitive and confidential duties requiring discretion and sound judgment. The AD-EIP should be proactive in identifying, developing and assessing programs and activities to achieve and maintain a positive and supportive engagement for the international community in their adjustment to domestic culture.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Counseling, Diversity, Education, Counseling or a related field.

Experience:
  • Seven or more years demonstrated experience working in international programs in a university environment, including experience with programming on intercultural issues.
  • 3 or more years of experience performing the functions of program assessment, design, implementation, and evaluation as appropriate for individuals, student services offices, and organizations.
  • Professional experience including program planning and administration, student advising, project management, communications/writing, and marketing for multicultural audiences.
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Multicultural competence to engage with diverse students and faculty with sensitivity, effectiveness and confidence.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service while finding solutions to complex problems and managing competing demands.
  • Working knowledge of international education, experiential learning, intercultural communication, student learning theories.
  • Knowledge of best practices in program design and experience developing and coordinating orientation and peer mentorship/friendship initiatives for international students.
  • Proven ability to create and manage program budgets.
  • Professional presence; ability to work with undergraduate, graduate students and faculty.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and ability to work within a team structure.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended and nontraditional hours as required; ability and willingness to travel in support of office and School priorities.

  • Doctorate in Higher Education, Diversity Education, Counseling or related field
  • Excellent verbal, written and technological communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational skills.
  • Current knowledge on International educational practices
  • Participation and/or leadership experience in professional development organizations related to university international services such as NAFSA.
  • Knowledge of and professional experience conducting cultural adjustment programming, including research and benchmarking to evaluate and improve services.
