Disability Services Coordinator

University of Michigan

Job Description

How to Apply

A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address:

? Why you are interested in working for LSA in the Disability Navigator position;

? Your specific interest in working with employees who identify as disabled; and

? Specific skills and experience that make you particularly appropriate for this position.

Summary

LSA currently has two Faculty & Staff Disability Navigator positions (Disability Services Coordinators) who work on a growing team to facilitate the coordination of reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff, provide education and training to the LSA community on disability, and strategically plan for improvements in the physical/built and virtual/digital environments. This position is part of a three-year pilot that is developing and delivering first-of-its-kind programming for the College and partnering with the stakeholders across the broader U-M community.

Under the direction of the Chief People Officer in the LSA Deans Office, you will report to the Senior Disability Navigator. This position is part of a broader team that also includes Human Resources, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and a network of disability service providers that operate across campus. You will partner with LSAs 75+ academic departments and programs on access and accommodations for employees and visitors with disabilities.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in arranging and providing accommodations for employees in a higher education setting in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ideal candidate will be able to respectfully and competently support LSA's diverse employees: employees with apparent and non apparent disabilities, employees who belong to a range of identity groups (cultural, racial, LGBTQ+, etc.), and employees who are from different backgrounds and locations. An ideal candidate has knowledge of and demonstrated professional experience with best practices for work-related reasonable accommodations and accessibility as it relates to events, digital content, and physical environments. Candidates should have an understanding of how to deliver services in a compassionate and appropriately confidential manner. Our team is building at a fast pace, with rapidly-emerging and time-sensitive issues. The ideal candidate would be comfortable and effective when operating with high levels of autonomy and be able to provide consistent responsiveness during work hours.
