Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Baha’i Chair for World Peace is seeking a graduate assistant (20 hours) to provide research andadministrative support to the office. This is an office based position, with some flexibility for remote work. The Baha’i Chair is an endowed academic program that advances interdisciplinary examination and discourse on global peace, as such the graduate assistant will be actively engaged in interdisciplinary research and in organizing events featuring a wide range of leading scholars. General Responsibilities:
  • Assist Director, Associate Director, and student interns with events and other programing
  • Networking across campus to raise the profile of the Chair and its events
  • Composing, drafting, proofing and editing written materials;
  • Conducting research and literature searches on topics of interest to the chair;
  • Gathering data for special projects;
  • Compiling and distributing office communications and correspondence;
  • Providing administrative and logistical support for events
  • Update and maintain program records
  • Assist with administrative duties
  • Assume other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
This position is only open to Graduate Students currently enrolled or admitted for the Fall 2023 semester at the University of Maryland College Park.

Experience:
  • Experience with research.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience with administrative support.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Proficiency with social media tools, Elms-Canvas, and Google Apps.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Strong detail orientation.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferences:

Preferences:
Experience with web content management systems, specifically Squarespace.

Additional Information:

  • This position is a 12-month graduate assistant staff position coinciding with the University’s academic calendar. https://phr-app6.umd.edu/holidays/.
  • This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
  • The average work week is 20 hours including some evenings and weekends.

Remuneration:
Remuneration will follow the standard rate for graduate students and employees in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.
