Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The primary function of the Communications & Events Coordinator is to plan and manage signature events and related content for the School of Public Policy in support of the School’s priorities and partnerships. The Coordinator may coordinate planning, logistics and outcomes for events such as, but not limited to, commencement, Maryland Day, partnership programming, alumni activities, and select center opportunities; promote events in coordination with the communications team; develop event imagery/content and write post-event stories; manage and adhere to event budgets; serve as a resource to those within the School hosting their events; establish and maintain relationships with vendors and School constituents, and use creativity and best practices to produce events and event marketing/communications that meet School’s objectives.
Event Planning & Management:
- Working closely with the Director of Strategic Communications, plan and manage signature events for the School of Public Policy in support of the School’s reputation, priorities and partnerships
- Organize logistics and outcomes for events such as commencement, Maryland Day, partnership programming, alumni activities, and select center opportunities
- Ensure events and activities are coordinated, support School’s objectives and meet budgetary requirements
- Serve as a resource to those within the School hosting their events
- Monitor and oversee events from preparation and set-up through teardown to ensure adherence to planned format, compliance with university guidelines, cooperation between vendors, resolution of issues, and overall satisfaction of participants
- Identify and help secure venues, vendors, speakers, photographers, etc
- Support marketing and communications team in promoting events including email marketing, developing/writing event content and managing details on School’s website
- Collect and monitor event registrations to inform event promotion and provide proper university documentation
- Manage event calendar and advise on space allocations to align with School priorities
- Maintain a working knowledge of the complex needs of a wide variety of events
- Liaise with vendors and stakeholders, including the building operations team and IT team, during the event planning process
- Assist the School with special projects and photography
- Incumbent must be able to perform well under strict deadlines

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or related field

At least two years of related professional experience in event management or communications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail; well organized
- Proficient using content management systems or other event and email marketing software
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Experience in higher education setting
- Experience using CRM
- Strong writing abilities
