The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct duties that are specifically related to research activities, that require an advanced level of knowledge in a field of law, science, or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.

Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • J.D., or PhD in bioethics, ethics of technology or related fields

  • Coursework or research experience in the legal or ethical issues related to data science, big data, surveillance.

  • Advanced writing ability is highly desired

Responsibilities:

  • Research related-duties: Explores ethical or legal issues relating to the use of data in a variety of contexts, including database studies, commercial big data, public health surveillance, law-enforcement surveillance, artificial intelligence etc. Participates in writing reports, papers, and proposals.

  • Administrative/Mentoring Duties: Participates in project management and completing IRB applications. Assists with classes as needed. Mentors students in the lab. Consults on law- or ethics-intensive projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
