About the Department
 

Equal Opportunity Programs (EOP), part of the Office of the Provost, has University-wide responsibility that includes coordinating compliance and programs in the areas of Equal Opportunity (EO), Affirmative Action (AA), unlawful discrimination and harassment prevention, accessibility, Veterans and Military-affiliated programs, and Title IX. To achieve its goals, the EOP works closely with the Office of Legal Counsel, Human Resources, and Campus and Student Life in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders throughout the University.


Job Summary
 

The Director of Resolution Services/Deputy Title IX Coordinator, is a full-time administrative staff position reporting to the Executive Director, UChicago CARES (the Center for Awareness, Resolution, Education and Support) and indirectly to the Associate Provost for Equal Opportunity Programs/Title IX Coordinator. The Director is responsible for the implementation of the University-wide resolution framework, which includes investigation and resolution by a hearing panel and alternative resolution options under the University’s non-discrimination and harassment policies. The Director works primarily on resolution options for complaints made against faculty, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers, and alternative resolution for students, and partners with Employee and Labor Relations, as needed, on reports and complaints against staff. The Director supervises one Associate Director in investigating and facilitating resolution options. The Director also works closely with colleagues within EOP to create and maintain a holistic approach to prevention, education, support, and response in support of all members of the campus community, consistent with the University’s compliance efforts related to non-discrimination and UChicago CARES core values.

Responsibilities


  • Lead the strategic direction of the University-wide resolution framework, specifically responsible for leading implementation of the University’s resolution framework, which includes provision of alternative resolution process options, investigation, and resolution by a hearing panel. 

  • Oversee the investigations of complaints alleging discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct against faculty, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers. 

  • Lead implementation of annual assessment of use and best practices related to resolution of reports and complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct and contribute to ongoing review and development of related University policy. 

  • Create annual report of resolution services efforts, as part of UChicago CARES annual report. 

  • Lead development of training content and related resources and facilitate training related to the University’s nondiscrimination and harassment policies and relevant process options and conflict resolution, for members of the campus community, in partnership with other members of the EOP team. This includes, but is not limited to, training for alternative resolution facilitators and members of the hearing panels. 

  • Guides the implementation of compliance activities designated by the University's strategic plans. Monitors University compliance with regulations and laws. 

  • Support the Executive Director, UChicago CARES and Associate Provost, in the development of alternative resolution process options for resolution of reports and complaints alleging discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct under University policy for all members of the campus community. 

  • Lead projects as directed by the Executive Director and Associate Provost on related University policy and process development and case management. 

  • Collaborates with all members of the EOP team to create and maintain a holistic approach to prevention, education, support, and response that support all members of the campus community, consistent with the University’s compliance efforts related to non-discrimination.? 

  • Conduct investigations of complaints made against faculty, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers alleging discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct, and as needed, those against staff (in partnership with Employee and Labor Relations), under the University’s non-discrimination and harassment policies in compliance with federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws (e.g. , Title VI, Title VII, Title IX). 

  • Coordinate hearings of the Panel on Unlawful Harassment or Title IX Hearing Panel pursuant to the University’s non-discrimination and harassment policies. 

  • Facilitate alternative resolution process options available under the University’s non-discrimination and harassment policies, which include alternative resolution and additional process options as developed. 

  • Implement data management system, iSight, for CARES team and in collaboration with campus partners. 

  • Collect and maintain data on resolution of complaints against faculty, other academic appointees, and postdoctoral researchers under the University’s non-discrimination and harassment policies for annual reporting; coordinate with campus partners, including ELR, on the data related to complaint resolutions for staff.  

  • Prepare annual compliance reports, in partnership with Director, Response and Support Services, regarding discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking (e.g. , Annual Safety and Security Report, Illinois Prevention Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act Annual Report, Panel on Unlawful Harassment annual report to the Council of the University Senate, and United Educators quarterly compliance reporting, etc.). 

  • Has a deep understanding to develop and administer policies related to affirmative action, non-discriminatory practices for persons with disabilities, and unlawful harassment or sexual misconduct. 

  • May provide confidential counseling and expertise to those who feel they have experienced unlawful treatment based on University programs and activities. 

  • Leads and provides expertise in the implementation of compliance activities designated by the University's strategic plans. Monitors University compliance with regulations and laws.

  • Leads teams to develop and administer policies related to affirmative action, non-discriminatory practices for persons with disabilities, and unlawful harassment or sexual misconduct.

  • Performs other related work as needed.




    Minimum Qualifications
     

    Education:

    Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

    Preferred Qualifications  


    Education


    • Master’s degree in a related field.


     


    Experience: 


    • Relevant experience in sexual misconduct prevention and program oversight.

    • Experience developing and/or delivering training regarding sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.

    • Coordinate and work with others; ability to effectively communicate and work consultatively with faculty and administrators at all levels within the University.
