The Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) is where students discover connections and community. The Academic Support Program for Student Athletes at North Carolina State University supports the recruitment, retention and graduation of NC State student athletes by providing a comprehensive support system that affords student athletes equitable opportunity to pursue academic, personal and professional development while strongly adhering to the principles of integrity, excellence, and lifelong learning.

Essential Job Duties

Responsibilities for the Academic Coordinator include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing programs and activities for assisting and monitoring academic progress toward degree for assigned sports
  • Providing academic support and collaborating with other staff members to create support plans for assigned students
  • Working closely with coaches and administrators to foster an environment conducive of academic success
  • Reporting academic information as needed to key stakeholders
  • Interpreting and implementing NCAA, NC State and ASPSA policies and procedures
  • Teaching seminar courses for first-year student-athletes
  • Serving on or leading unit committees and as a liaison with other campus support organizations
  • Monitoring academic progress and eligibility of assigned team(s)
  • Meeting weekly with freshmen and some upperclassmen student- athletes on assigned team(s)
  • Assisting in the recruiting process of student athletes
  • Communicating academic information and concerns to coaches/athletic administrators

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with a variety of students and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience advising students at the university level with a demonstrated ability to interact with students on a variety of issues
  • 1+ years of experience working within academic support programs for student-athletes
