The School of Social Transformation, an interdisciplinary unit at Arizona State University (http://sst.asu.edu), invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in Women and Gender Studies.  The anticipated start date is Fall 2023. We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. in Women and Gender Studies by the time of appointment and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

The successful candidate will have a typical teaching load of 4 courses per semester. Essential functions include teaching core and special topics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level; preparing syllabi; new course design at the graduate and undergraduate level; evaluating student work; student mentoring; holding office hours. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses as well as high enrollment special topics courses and courses at the graduate level. The candidate will also teach in a variety of modalities, with some teaching expected in person.

This is an academic-year 2023-2024 appointment with an expected start date of Fall 2023. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis. This appointment is contingent upon sufficient enrollment in courses taught by the department to support this position. If enrollment is insufficient, this appointment may be rescinded prior to the start of Fall 2023 classes, or terminated early prior to a subsequent class session (such as Fall Session B or Spring Sessions A, B, or C).

The School of Social Transformation (SST) was founded in 2009, bringing together diverse scholars, students and communities in African and African American Studies, Asian Pacific American studies, social and cultural pedagogy, justice and social inquiry, and women and gender studies. As one of many transdisciplinary schools unique to Arizona State University, SST focuses on transformational knowledge, including creative research approaches to themes and questions embedded in broader historical, social and cultural contexts. SST is home to 48 tenure-track and 13 non-tenure eligible faculty members that serve 600+ undergraduate majors and over 100+ doctoral and masters-level students in 19 graduate programs spanning an array of research areas. Minimum Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Women and Gender Studies
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• A minimum of two years teaching in the field of Women and Gender Studies.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff populations and communities

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience teaching core courses within the Women and Gender Studies curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated experience teaching special topic courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated experience with new course design at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of modalities.
• A demonstrated excellence in mentoring students.
• Demonstrated experience teaching both small and large enrollment courses.
