The purpose of Pre-health Summer Program is to increase the diversity of the healthcare workforce and improve minority employment opportunities by targeting economically and educationally disadvantaged high school students in Salt Lake County, Utah. The goal of the program is to introduce and expose students to a variety of allied health and health occupations, educational programs, and careers through a robust and transformative academic curriculum.
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, Pre-health Summer Program Peer Mentors will advise, tutor, guide, and be a resource to all program participants. The Peer Mentors primary focus is to support the overall success of the students by providing help with academic goals setting, educational development and personal development. Candidate must demonstrate willingness, patience, and a passion for the student’s advancement in post-secondary education.
As a Peer Mentor, you will have the opportunity to share what you know about being a successful student with high school students.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
The Pre-Health Summer Peer Mentor will perform a variety of tutoring and mentoring duties which involve attending class sessions and study hall with students, meeting with students, and tutoring. Mentors are responsible to:
1. Support program staff in all program activities.
2. Develop an enduring and trusting relationship with students.
3. Be punctual and present every day.
4. Must demonstrate competence to tutor students in High School areas: · English · Math · Science 5. Help create a positive learning environment.
6. Model appropriate academic, social attitudes and behaviors.
7. Be actively engaged in the program sessions with the students and encourage participation.
8. Maintain professional communication with the entire Pre-Health Summer Program staff.
9. Create/Facilitate ice breakers with program participants to build rapport.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate.
- Successful completion of English, math, and science college courses.
- Ability to tutor in English, math, and science areas.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including presentations.
Must have reliable transportation to make it to be able to travel to Jordan campus.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working with high school students.
2. Background in tutoring and mentoring.
3. Experience working with Microsoft Office programs.
4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
5. Familiarity with careers in healthcare.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Modern office practice, procedures, and equipment.
2. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
3. Interpersonal skills using professionalism and patience.
