Job Description Summary:
The Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine department strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the department continues to have a long and successful record in training undergraduate, master and graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
This Research Scientist is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising research at a high level by using cell and molecular, bioinformatic, and animal approaches. The candidate will be involved in studying NIH-funded projects by focusing on anti-cancer drug resistance, drug discovery, DNA repair, protein modification using both in vivo and in vitro tools. The candidate is also expected to mentor junior postdocs as well as students. The candidate will participate in the weekly lab meeting, bi-weekly research/publication meetings, collaborator meetings, and present and discuss the research progress with the PI. The candidate with previous postdoc training experience in cell and molecular biology and animal models is required. Effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Strong work ethic, creativity, and enthusiasm required. Performs other related duties as assigned.The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

  • PhD degree in Molecular or Cellular biology, Physiology, Cancer Biology, biochemistry, or Pharmacology.
  • Two years of postdoctoral training.
  • Work independently as well as direct others, design and perform experiments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience with animal models is desired.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
