Position Highlights University of Arizona's (UA) Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on quantum sensing and its applications, under the direction of Dr. Christos Gagatsos. The candidate will work on the theory of Bayesian quantum sensing and related applications including (but not limited to) super-resolution imaging and magnetometry.

The candidate will be in a vibrant and inspiring environment and while performing their duties they will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with the different quantum groups across campus.

The duration of the initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility to extend to two more years, contingent upon funding and performance.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership in quantum sensing.
  • Develop a software platform to study advanced adaptive quantum sensing protocols.
  • Prepare, edit, and revise research papers to be published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • Assist in writing research grant proposals.
  • Present work at national and international meetings, conferences, workshops, and other technical meetings, including regular group meetings.
  • Co-advise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of quantum mechanics.
  • Solid knowledge of quantum information theory with continuous and discrete variables, with emphasis on quantum sensing.
  • Mathematical mastery is essential.
  • Knowledge of at least one of the following: Matlab, Mathematica, Python, or any scientific programming language.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in one of the following fields: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields upon hire.
  • One (1) year of research experience in quantum sensing. 
  • Experience in publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of research experience in quantum information.
  • Advanced programming experience.
