The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University seeks an MD/DO/or foreign equivalent, board certified or equivalent anesthesiologist and eligible for a California license or exemption to join the Department as the Anesthesia Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine at Stanford Health Care.
Critical Care Medicine at Stanford Health Care is a leading program that draws local, national, and international referrals. The Anesthesia Division of Critical Care Medicine is a key part of this multidisciplinary program that includes the medical, and surgical intensive care units. The division contributes critical input into all aspects of patient care, and co-leads strategic operational, educational, and scholarly efforts. The competitive educational program continues to attract some of the brightest future intensivists. Case volume and complexity provide unique opportunities for impactful scholarship, benefiting from cutting-edge and collaborative research programs across departments and schools.
The successful applicant is committed to clinical excellence, with a track record of leadership and accomplishments in the field of critical care medicine. The applicant's commitment to the growth of the academic program is paramount to advance patient care, drive innovation, and mentor future leaders. The multidisciplinary approach to intensive care at Stanford Medicine also requires the ability to foster a collaborative culture and engage with other participating departments. The successful applicant will spend all or most of their time in critical care medicine, which refers to clinical care, operations, faculty development, education, and research. The division chief will represent the department and its faculty in a multidisciplinary setting, including several intensive care units at Stanford Medicine. The division chief will oversee clinical care, operational strategic, educational, faculty development, and scholarly efforts that extend beyond the clinical care and operational needs of a single intensive care unit. Applicants must have board certification or equivalent in anesthesiology, as well as subspecialty training in critical care medicine.
Academic rank and appointment line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with appointment as Associate Professor or Professor in the University Medical Line or the Clinician Educator Line.

  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
  • The major criteria for appointment in the Clinician Educator Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

    The expected base pay range for this position is:

    Associate Professor $423,000 - $433,000
    Professor $444,000-$465,000
    This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
