What We Want
This Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for investigating behavioral, molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the magnetic sense in monarch butterflies. This position will conduct behavioral, genetic, and genomic experiments using modern techniques and approaches, including CRISPR/Cas9, transposon-based transgenesis, and various innovative high-throughput sequencing technologies; This Postdoctoral Research Associate will also contribute to the maintenance of the butterfly colony; prepare research results for publication; present at conferences, and assist in the training of students. What You Need to Know
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.
Required Education and Experience:
Appropriate PhD.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work both independently and as part of an interactive team
Preferred Education and Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in animal behavior and magnetoreception, including the building and manipulations of magnetic coils for behavioral studies
Familiarity with animal behavior and magnetoreception
Demonstrated track record of productivity
While experience in functional genomics is not required, this position will be expected to learn CRISPR-based reverse genetics, transposon-based transgenesis and high-throughput sequencing approaches
Ability to take part in further fundraising with the principal investigator
Responsibilities:
Research Duties: Responsible for investigating behavioral, molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the magnetic sense in monarch butterflies. Designs and executes research experiments and analyzes results .Conducts behavioral, genetic, and genomic experiments using modern techniques and approaches, including CRISPR/Cas9, transposon-based transgenesis, and various innovative high-throughput sequencing technologies.
Documentation: Maintains records, writes manuscripts and prepares research results for publication, presents findings at conferences, and contributes to grant proposals.
Training: Assists with training new personnel on lab procedures.
Lab Duties: General laboratory duties such as: purchasing supplies, butterfly colony maintenance, research equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe working environment, as well as performing other duties as assigned.
