The Opportunity

The School of Public Administration (SPA) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applicants for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure earning, visiting lecturer with an anticipated start date of August 2023. This is a visiting position, renewable annually for up to four academic years, and will be located at the UCF Downtown campus in Orlando, FL.

The selected candidate will teach courses in public administration, public policy, emergency management, urban and regional planning, and nonprofit management for the school’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The faculty member will be expected to assist in departmental administration and community outreach, in addition to providing service to the university, college, community, and academic discipline.

The School of Public Administration offers a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration and Master of Nonprofit Management (first accredited program in the world by NASPAA) programs, a PAB-accredited Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning, undergraduate public administration, nonprofit management, and emergency management degrees, and graduate and undergraduate certificate programs or minors (Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, and Urban and Regional Planning). The school also has a Ph.D. program in Public Affairs. The School of Public Administration has one of the largest PA programs in the Southeast, with active partnerships with state and local government and community nonprofit agencies. The school is housed in the College of Community Innovation and Education and is in a state-of-the-art facility with access to fully equipped multimedia classrooms at the UCF Downtown Orlando campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, or a related field by the start of the appointment period. Minimum one year of  teaching experience in public administration or related fields in either face-to-face or online formats is expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

Local government or nonprofit work experience; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse range of students; and a strong command of public speaking.
