Postdoctoral Research Fellow

UT Southwestern

Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:
Endothelial Basis of Cardiometabolic Disease
Center for Pulmonary and Vascular Biology

The laboratory of Dr. Philip Shaul and Dr. Chieko Mineo in the Center for Pulmonary and Vascular Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas TX, USA) is seeking two self-motivated postdoctoral fellows to join the team to lead multiple NIH-funded projects.  The Shaul-Mineo Lab studies fundamental processes in endothelial cells driving cardiometabolic diseases including atherosclerosis, thrombosis and type 2 diabetes.  In particular, the team interrogates the role of endothelial transcytosis, cholesterol metabolism, non-nuclear estrogen receptors, and signaling modules in lipid rafts in cardiometabolic disorders.  Our discoveries are made using state-of-the-art technologies in CRISPR gene editing, single cell RNA sequencing, bioinformatics, genetic engineering in mice, intravital microscopy and other imaging modalities, and a number of cell and molecular techniques.  For more information on research projects in the lab, please refer to recent publications (JCI 2018, Circulation 2019, Nature 2019) and the Shaul/Mineo Lab website.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD, MD or MD/PhD.  Interested candidates must have 1) a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related discipline, 2) a solid publication record, and 3) scientific curiosity and the desire and ability to work independently.  Experience with genetic mouse models and genomic approaches is a plus.  Competitive salary and benefits are offered.  The postdoctoral fellows in the Shaul/Mineo lab receive strong support from both of the PI’s, who are committed to their professional development in preparation for academic, industrial, or entrepreneurial careers in cardiovascular or metabolism research.  Gaining skills in scientific question identification, project design, grant writing, presentation at conferences, and manuscript writing is emphasized.  The postdoctoral fellows also benefit from participation in the UT Southwestern Postdoctoral Training Program.

Information on our postdoctoral training program, benefits and a virtual tour can be found at  http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/postdocs .

If you are highly motivated and would like to train at the medical center that for the 3rd year in a row is ranked as the TOP health care institution globally by Nature Index for publishing high-quality research in the life sciences , please email your CV, a statement of your research interests, and names of three references to:
