Position description

Drs. Scott Makeig and Arnaud Delorme at the Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience (SCCN) of the Institute for Neural Computation https://inc.ucsd.edu/index.php (INC) at the University of California San Diego https://ucsd.edu/ are seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a minimum of two-year, compute-intensive neuroimaging project/collaboration between SCCN and the Child-Mind Institute https://childmind.org/ of New York. The Healthy Brain Network https://healthybrainnetwork.org/ (HBN) project of Dr. Michael Milham and colleagues, is making HBM data available via the NEMAR data portal https://nemar.org/ for accessing and processing human neuroelectromagnetic data on the high-performance computer network of The Neuroscience Gateway (NSG) https://www.nsgportal.org/ . HBN project EEG, behavior, and eye tracking data during viewing of short movies is being analyzed at the source and source network levels using advanced applications of Independent Component Analysis (see Makeig et al., 1996, Delorme et al., 2012, Akalin Acar et al., 2016, 2020, Akalin Acar & Makeig, 2021). Additional data now being collected by Dr. Milham uses touch screen tasks to increase participant motor involvement. Tools and pipelines developed in the project will be made available in EEGLAB through NSG. Our neuroscientific goal is to model the development of cortical EEG source dynamics and associated eye gaze patterns during viewing of 'moving pictures', and to model and explore individual differences in these processes.

Job duties may include but will not be limited to:
• Annotating events in HBN short films to operate both standalone and our EEGLAB signal processing environment running on Matlab
• Developing an applicable library of event-descriptive terms for the Hierarchical Event Descriptor system (HED) and related open-source tools
• Exporting HBN data to OpenNeuro using BIDS standards, for transfer to NEMAR.
• Analyzing synchronous source-resolved EEG and eye tracking data using advanced applications of Independent Component Analysis, Bayesian source and network clustering, and SCALE-optimized forward head models.
• Modeling the development of cortical EEG source dynamics and associated eye gaze and reach-to-touch patterns
• Modeling and exploring individual differences in these pattern processes

The University of California employs about 6,000 postdoctoral scholars (approx. 1,200 at UCSD) who contribute to the academic community by enhancing the research and education programs of the university. Postdocs have access to many services, union and health benefits at UCSD which can be explored here: https://postdoc.ucsd.edu/postdocs/index.html
