Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist provides support with implementing, monitoring and improving the College’s employee relations program and serves as an advisor to faculty, supervisory and staff employees. The position is responsible for performance management, campus climate, and other human resources matters, including gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations.
This role handles several processes impacting the department and/or campus including onboarding and exit processing. Significant data management is required in order to continually assess and recommend process improvements. Consistent monitoring of state and federal regulations is necessary to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.

This is an exempt, professional staff position and includes a comprehensive benefits package offering medical, dental and vision coverage; generous paid time off; tuition assistance; and retirement savings. This position will require work performed regularly on campus.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
A bachelor’s degree is required or an associate’s degree with a current SHRM or HRCi certification.

Required Experience
A minimum of five years of proven, direct responsibility for employee relations within a Human Resources department is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines and shift priorities with little notice
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
  • Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local laws pertaining to employment
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc)
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to new technology

Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM or HRCI certification are strongly preferred
  • HR experience working with unions
  • Experience with PeopleAdmin, Ellucian Banner, and Performance Pro

Hours per Week
40 - 100%

General Weekly Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, generally 9 a.m.- 5.pm.
