The School of Arts, Communication & Media, located in the state-of-the-art Center for Arts and Media at South City Campus, offers a diverse array of disciplines and programs that engage and inspire all Salt Lake Community College students. Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, the successful candidate will teach a wide variety of courses in Music and Music Technology as well as fulfill committee and related tasks as assigned:
1. Develop, teach, and coordinate face-to-face and online instruction across various music and audio production courses.
2. Work closely with the performing arts faculty and students on performances and showcases.
3. Utilize diverse methodologies, rigorous assessment, and consistent course content.
4. Participate in curriculum development, textbook selection, and course and program assessment as needed.
5. Provide students with clear assignment descriptions and grading criteria.
6. Respond with appropriate and timely feedback regarding assignments and quizzes.
7. Assess and maintain accurate and current student performance records.
8. Demonstrate commitment to professional development and commitment to making significant contributions to the Music Department, in addition to teaching a full class load.
9. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops.
10. Advise students on their academic progress and program requirements.
11. Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues, and administration.
12. Accept other duties as assigned.
13. Attend New Faculty Orientation sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach students in music subjects, such as audio production, music mixing, bands, introduction to music, or similar hands-on music courses.
  3. Experience demonstrated in one or more industry-standard Digital Audio Workstation environments; Pro Tools, Cubase/Nuendo, Logic, Ableton, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Music, Music Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  2. A record of successful teaching in the discipline at the college/university level.
  3. Familiarity with system networking technology, especially Dante AV0IP and MIDI systems.
  4. Experience in leading bands, orchestras, jazz, popular music bands, and/or other instrumental music groups in an educational setting.
  5. Relevant industry experience
  6. Record of successful and paid experience with curriculum development of music courses.
  7. Record of successful and paid experience teaching online classes and working in online educational platforms.
  8. Record of successful and paid experience with supervising and/or advising students.
  9. Experience as a producer in a recording studio environment.
  10. Up-to-date knowledge of industry practices in studio recording, mixing, live sound system design, and production.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Deep knowledge of the discipline area; specifically modern audio studio production techniques and technology.
  2. Strong, proven understanding of analog and digital audio principles, recording/mixing techniques, and equipment.
  3. Demonstrate a clear understanding of current and historical music industry trends, with the ability to create an innovative and workforce-focused music curriculum.
  4. Ability to lead a strong non-traditional music ensemble program centered around popular music production and performance.
  5. Effectively communicate complex and relevant educational materials.
  6. Background and knowledge in the area of Musical Acoustics.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively and work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
  8. Provide leadership and outreach to area high schools, colleges and universities, community organizations, and professionals, in order to build and maintain community and educational connections and partnerships
