Educational Programs and Services (EPS) is home to departments and programs that are central to the educational mission of the Stanford University School of Medicine.  We serve all populations of students and trainees who participate in the School's programs: Stanford MD, MS, MSPA, and PhD students; visiting MD students seeking clinical clerkships; postdoctoral scholars and medical fellows; and medical practitioners seeking further professional enrichment. Our goal is to provide a Stanford School of Medicine experience worthy of our students' and trainees' talents, aspirations, and dedication.

Department Information

The Stanford School of Medicine is at the forefront of medical education, training the next generation healthcare leaders.  The Master of Science in PA Studies (MSPA) program educates Physician Assistant (PA) students to become not only competent clinicians, but trailblazers and leaders in the field of medicine.

Job Purpose

The Master of Science in PA Studies Program at the Stanford School of Medicine is seeking an energetic Student Life Officer to administer and implement university, department, and program policies and procedures on student life issues, including but not limited to matriculation, financial aid, housing, registrar services, wellbeing, advising, and academic services.  The Student Life Officer must be committed to ensuring a student experience of the highest possible quality.

This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area (hybrid of working 2-3 days on-site), subject to operational need.

Core Duties

?      Advise, including referral, and serve as primary resource for all student life matters listed above, for students from prematriculation through graduation, in order to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions.  Provide resources and services for prematriculants, students, and alumni.  Liaise with other University units as needed in support of students.

?      Collaborate with team members as well as colleagues within the University community to support student life programming and help resolve student life-related program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.

?      Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.

?      Analyze effectiveness of current student life programs and make recommendations for future programs.

?      Oversee students’ degree progress, in collaboration with the Student Progress Committee.

?      Analyze and execute student stipends and other student financial transactions, as well as transactions for student life events such as orientation and graduation.

?      In collaboration with Administrative Director, lead organization and execution of various student life events, including, but not limited to, orientation and graduation.  Oversee vendor selection and other logistical processes, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and service providers as necessary.


Education & Experience (Required): 

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)

?      Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.

?      Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.

?      Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

?      Advanced customer service skills.

?      Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

?      Understanding of financial transactions.

?      Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

Desired Qualifications

Highly organized, energetic, self-motivated person with strong communication skills who is a resourceful problem solver.  Must enjoy working with students and be committed to ensuring a student experience of the highest possible quality.  Must be able to quickly learn and master University and program software systems. Familiarity with Stanford systems (Oracle Financials, PeopleSoft) a plus.

Physical Requirements: 

?      Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

?      Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,100 to $95,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
