Position Summary

Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nada Abumrad at Washington University School of Medicine, Division of Nutritional Sciences. Research in the Abumrad lab is focused on the molecular mechanisms important to metabolic fitness with projects related to vascular and neuronal function within the context of abnormal fatty acid metabolism. The lab uses cutting-edge technologies, including genetic manipulations, super-resolution microscopy, -omics analyses (lipid, protein, genomic) as well as extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization. The successful candidate will have opportunities to drive impact full interdisciplinary research within a highly collaborative team environment and will be encouraged to work on research with the potential for development into an independent project.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in design of research experiments.
  • Evaluate research findings and assists in reporting of the results.
  • Maintain conscientious discharge of research responsibilities.
  • Conform to ethical standards in research.
  • Maintain good laboratory practice including maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Show collegial conduct towards all members of the research group.
  • Adhere to applicable university policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Assist with grant preparation.
  • Prepare and submit manuscript on research.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in physiology, cell biology, biochemistry or a related field.
  • Strong experience in molecular biology demonstrated by publication in reputable journals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience with metabolism and/or physiology of vasculature and/or brain function.
  • Experience in mouse handling, microscopy and mammalian cell culture.
  • Skills in independent analytical thinking, and ability to communicate with laboratory staff and investigators is highly desired.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical
hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.

Salary Range
 

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
