Job Summary

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching vocational nursing theory and skills in the classroom, campus lab, and clinical settings.The primary site of instruction is the vocational nursing program on the Midland campus.

Required Qualifications

Must hold a current unencumbered license or privilege to practice professional nursing (RN) in the State of Texas
Minimum education level Associate’s degree or diploma from a hospital-based school of nursing
Must have been actively employed in nursing for the past three years or have advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and/or nursing administration
Must have had a variety of nursing experience since graduation and show evidence of teaching abilities and maintain current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject area of teaching responsibility
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
Knowledge of equipment appropriate to the field of nursing
Must be proficient in computer usage and the English language

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher
Experience teaching nursing courses at a community college or university
Experience working with or precepting nursing students in a clinical setting
Experience with an online management system such as Canvas or Blackboard
Experience with Microsoft software such as Word and PowerPoint

Essential Functions

Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College’s faculty handbook
Assist in the details of program offerings including scheduling, teaching classes, lab operation, and curriculum development
Teach and supervise students in clinical and skills laboratory learning experiences
Assure appropriate orientation, clinical assignments, and clinical learning opportunities for all students enrolled in the cohort on the Midland College campus
Teach nursing courses face-to-face on the Midland campus; use interactive video conferencing (IVC) to the students enrolled in Fort Stockton; occasionally originate IVC classes from Fort Stockton to Midland
Develop, implement and evaluate the curriculum
Evaluate student learning outcomes including the use of online testing
Participate in the development, implementation, and enforcement of standards/policies in the Midland College Catalog and Student Handbook and the Vocational Nursing Student Handbook
Assist with recruitment, academic advisement, admissions, withdrawal, and graduation of students
Initiate and maintain good public relations with appropriate civic and health care entities in the community
Assist Program Chair with maintaining program approval with the Texas Board of Nursing
Attend educational, campus, and departmental meetings
Maintain positive communication and work cooperatively with faculty team and program director
Faculty will teach 15 lecture equivalent hours (LEH) per long semester and 12 LEH during the summer including didactic, lab, and clinical content; overload may be required and paid according to Midland College policies
Other duties as assigned

Teach face-to-face, use IVC; utilize online platform to enhance courses; utilize laboratory and clinical settings
Travel to clinical sites and occasionally to the Williams Regional Technical Training Center in Fort Stockton
Use of manual dexterity
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
Face-to-face, interactive video, and online classes; laboratory and clinical settings

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$63,845 per year

Max Salary

$78,030 per year

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
