Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences faculty at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2023. We invite applications from outstanding scholars who investigate fundamental concepts and mechanisms in Plant Biology. We especially welcome applications from researchers working in the area of plant evolutionary genetics.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program in plant biology. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses relevant to their area of expertise and mentoring research by undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
The Department of Biological Sciences (www.biol.sc.edu) is a multidisciplinary unit of approximately 1,800 undergraduate students, 60 graduate students, 18 professional-track faculty, and 34 tenure-track faculty members representing a broad range of research areas, including Neurobiology, Developmental Biology, Cancer Biology, Plant Science, Ecology and Evolution, and Marine Biology. The Department has ready access to excellent core technical support facilities and is complemented by strong research programs in other science departments, the USC School of Medicine, the Arnold School of Public Health, and the School of Pharmacy.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in biology and at least two years of postdoctoral research experience by the employment start date.
