Position Title Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory Technician

Position Summary
The successful candidate will be expected to perform chemical reactions and purify compounds. This position is linked to a project involving microbiology (fungal culture) and organic chemistry, so, preparation of fungal cultures, extraction and purification of metabolites is also part of the job description.
This is a grant funded position that may be extended or shortened based on funds availability and departmental needs.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you, as the employee, to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in:
  • Mini- and macro-scale synthesis of organic compounds under inert atmosphere.
  • The use of pyrophoric reagents.
  • Thin layer and flash chromatography.

Ability to:
  • Teach students basic laboratory techniques.
  • Supervise students in a laboratory setting.
  • Perform independent literature search in databases such as SciFinder, Google Scholar, supplier websites.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA..
Required Education
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or a closely related field.
Required Work Experience
Experience in:
  • Mini- and macro-scale synthesis of organic compounds under inert atmosphere.
  • The use of pyrophoric reagents.
  • Thin layer and flash chromatography.
Preferred Qualifications
-M. Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related field.
-Previous experience as a technician.
-Postdoctoral fellowship.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Work Hours
Typical Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional extended hours/weekends to meet departmental needs.
