The Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) located in Abigail Wexner Research Institute of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to work on NIH and CDC funded research studies that focus on injury prevention and control in children and adolescents, with a particular focus on traumatic brain injury and teen driving safety.

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist with expertise in either traumatic brain injury or teen driving safety. The Post-Doctoral Research Scientist will work under the supervision of Dr. Ginger Yang, the principal investigator and will work closely with other research staff on the team. The person in this position will focus on enhancing their injury research skills including study design, instrument development and validation, and data collection and analysis methodology. The person will also participate in scientific writing of conference abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and grant applications while working towards a goal of becoming an independent researcher.

Current projects include three active NIH funded R01s focusing on:

1. Longitudinally evaluating the driving performance of teen drivers following a TBI.

2. Testing the effectiveness of parent-focused driving safety interventions on safe driving practices among teen drivers with a traffic violation.

3. Assessing the implementation and cost-effectiveness of translation of an evidence-based safe driving intervention tailored to the needs of rural and urban teen drivers with a traffic violation.

CIRPis one of nine CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers in the U.S. and is the only center to focus primarily on the prevention of injury among children and adolescents. Its faculty members are active in injury research and prevention on local and global levels. Columbus, the state capital, is a vibrant, growing community located in Central Ohio. As the fifteenth largest city in the U.S., it boasts a blend of metropolitan attractions and nearby suburban and rural comfort. There are numerous opportunities to enjoy the arts, recreational activities, and cultural and sporting events, and to continue educational endeavors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Earned PhD in the field of Public Health, or equivalent degree.

2. Prior experience of injury and/or violence research.

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

4. Strong problem solving skills and proficiency with statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and/or SPSS.

5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

6. Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals either as a lead author or co-author.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
