Position Summary

Dr. Andrei Vlassenko and Dr. Manu Goyal seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate brain glucose, oxidative and non-oxidative metabolism and their relationship with brain structure and cognition in aging, white matter hyperintensities and Alzheimer disease. This is an ongoing study of over 200 participants who complete comprehensive multi-tracer PET and MRI neuroimaging, neurobiological, and clinical assessments. This is a unique opportunity to work with a rich data set to help better understand and discover biomarkers of brain aging and Alzheimer disease.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Routine consolidation, processing, and management of PET and MRI data using in-house and commercial pipelines and codes.
  • Investigation of individual-level and group-level PET and MRI aging correlates, predictors, and biomarkers of accelerated aging or Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
  • Evaluation and interpretation of analyzed data in conjunction with PIs and other team members.
  • Presentation of scientific findings both inside and outside the University Assisting with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Preparation and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals. Potentially assisting with supervision and training of undergraduate/graduate students and research technicians.
  • Performance of other duties incidental to the work described above. Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records. Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  • Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.
  • All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The appointee has earned a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, imaging sciences, or related field.
  • We will also consider applicants who have doctorates in relevant fields (e.g., metabolism, psychology, electrical engineering, data science) with an interest in neuroimaging research.
  • Experience with brain imaging and MATLAB, Python, and/or R.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
