Position Summary
Dr. David Spencer is seeking a Research Technician to provide technical support for exciting new research projects in the field of genomics, cancer and cellular therapies. The Spencer lab uses cutting-edge molecular and genomic technologies to study the biology of cancer in the pursuit of new therapies. The lab has published impactful articles in Cancer Cell, Cell, Leukemia, and the New England Journal of Medicine and is a key member of the cancer genetics group at Washington University and Siteman Cancer Center. Dr. Spencer has received funding from ASH, the Cancer Research Foundation, Doris Duke, Siteman Cancer Research Fund, and the NCI, and has extensive collaborations with the McDonnell Genome Institute and investigators funded by the Genomics of AML Program Project Grant.
This position will support ongoing and future laboratory studies of leukemia and cellular cancer therapies. Responsibilities will be to perform the following laboratory techniques:
Cell culture
Flow cytometry
PCR
Gel electrophoresis
Cloning
CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
Protein analysis by Western blotting
DNA sequencing library preparation, including ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and related technologies
Training will be provided to learn advanced genomic techniques. There will be opportunities for project management and data analysis for candidates with the appropriate skills. The Tech will work directly with Dr. Spencer along with students and postdoctoral researchers and laboratory staff on a day-to-day basis, allowing for training and mentorship to promote career development.
This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with basic computer skills and data analysis in Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software.


Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range
$15.76 - $21.09 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
