Summary of Position

Postdoctoral Research Associate in VR Data Visualization in the fields of Space Science and Ocean Mapping
The UNH Space Science Center (SSC), Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping Joint Hydrographic Center (CCOM/JHC), and Data Visualization Research Lab (DVRL) are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop visualizations of electromagnetic field and bathymetric data in virtual reality. Specific tasks include:
· Design VR environments in Unity, augmenting prior art from the CCOM/JHC DVRL on interactive point-cloud manipulation and flow visualization.
· Support local manipulation of streaming data from cloud-based bathymetric data processing algorithms
· Implement and visualize reconstructions of electromagnetic field measurements
· Implement combined grid reconstructions, guidance statistics, and source point visualizations
· Incorporate interactive features for the user, particularly with free-space manipulation tools (e.g., pairs of 6-DOF controllers)
In addition, this project contains a public outreach component and will support NASA press releases. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with local K-12 schools to showcase science in VR as well as with the NASA Science Visualization Studio (SVS) to create visualizations for press release articles regarding the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission.
