About the Opportunity

JOB TITLE:

Post-doctoral position in the Takacs lab investigating the Lyme disease agent Borrelia burgdorferi and its interactions with its tick vector and mammal host.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The successful candidate will perform basic or applied research of a defined scope, using existing theories and methods, and with the ultimate goal of substantively expanding the knowledge within the field of the research topic. Individuals should have the ability and desire to innovate when these are insufficient, including by learning new techniques or establishing new approaches. The holder of this position will assist the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of research results and the acquisition of grants. The individual will maintain the laboratory research team and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, or an equivalent degree is required. Specific expertise in molecular biology, working with lab animals, the tick vectors of Lyme disease, and handling Borrelia burgdorferi is preferred. Ability and willingness to work in a biosafety level 2 and animal biosafety level 2 research environment is required. The successful candidate must be able to undertake substantially full-time research and scholarship under the supervision of prof. Takacs. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to the successful candidate. Ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers from different fields. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1) Assist in designing, initiating, executing, completing, and interpreting research and experiments.

 

2) Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals.

 

3) Management and mentoring responsibilities: assist in Laboratory Management and participate in the training and supervision of graduate student, undergraduate lab aides, or research technicians, as needed.
