Mason School of Business, and School of Education—collaborate with experts at other universities, government agencies nonprofit organizations, local communities and Indigenous Peoples, and private companies to advance solutions that are intended to help both humans and nature thrive |
| Position Summary | The Institute for Integrative Conservation invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral scholar who will collaborate with Professor John Swaddle in both research and teaching projects. The position will begin on September 10, 2023. We seek an individual with research experience in behavioral ecology interested in applying their knowledge and skills toward applied conservation solutions. In particular, the successful applicant will work with Professor Swaddle to develop novel solutions to avian collisions, including window collisions. As part of this work, it is likely that the postdoctoral scholar will learn and apply aspects of coding and hardware development to create new technologies and collaborate with other scientists and conservation professionals. Therefore, interest or experience in developing technologies for applied conservation solutions will be viewed favorably. As part of the research, the postdoctoral scholar will mentor a small number of (2-3) undergraduate students in their projects and teach a seminar-style undergraduate course in “conservation behavior” each spring semester. The course focuses on applications of behavioral ecology to conservation. The postdoctoral scholar will receive mentoring in teaching to support their professional development. The postdoctoral scholar will join a vibrant, supportive research team of graduate and undergraduate students and there will be opportunities to be involved in additional projects depending on interests.
