ASBMB Science Policy Fellowship Program
Job Description
The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) selects 1 postdoctoral fellow for work in congressional relations in DC for up to 18 months. The Science Policy Fellowship offers recently graduated Ph.D.s an exposure to a range of activities regarding science policy, and congressional and governmental relations, by working in the Public Affairs office at ASBMB's Bethesda, MD headquarters near Washington, DC. The primary goal of the fellowship program is to offer young scientists exposure to work at the intersection of science communications, policy and social science. The fellow will spend time on Capitol Hill attending meetings and hearings, agency briefings, seminars and coalition sessions. Other responsibilities of the fellow include research and analysis, advocacy, and communications.
Eligibility & Requirements
A recently awarded doctorate (i.e. applicant is not beyond postdoctoral stage and must have received doctorate degree within 5 years of application). Resume. One-page cover letter expressing interest in position. 2 letters of recommendation. Writing sample: Explain in 500 words or less a policy issue which you are deeply interested in (not related to funding). Essay should a) summarize the issue, b) demonstrate a familiarity with the issue that would separate you from your colleagues, c) provide an example of an action the ASBMB can take to address the issue.
