Ames National Laboratory invests in the future of science through education programs and mentorships that nurture undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, and early career scientists. We are seeking candidates for an Education, Outreach, and Program Specialist (Program Specialist I) position who will assist in coordinating education and outreach events, programs, conferences, and meetings. This includes components of logistics, resource management, evaluation, staffing and communication.

The individual is responsible for coordinating and managing the statewide Ames National Laboratory High School and Middle School Science Bowl events. Primary responsibilities include coordinating local logistics, marketing, team selection, responding to requests for information, addressing unique situations that may arise, advising teams and staff of rules/requirements and identifying opportunities for improvement.

The individual also coordinates aspects of the undergraduate internship, visiting faculty and summer programs at the Ames National Laboratory. Primary responsibilities include processing applicant information and forms for admission to individual programs including arrangement of travel and housing, payment processing for program participants, and development/updating of program database. This individual also responds to questions requiring interpretation and implementation of programs and advises students of rules and requirements related to their internships. In addition, this position collaborates with ISU administrative offices, departmental offices, and service offices regularly regarding policy/course offerings.

The individual must possess the ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds and at all levels within the organizations involved. They must be able to work independently or with others in a team environment, be able to manage multiple ongoing tasks and have strong written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, financial management skills, and organizational skills, including managing multiple deadlines and working with confidential information. The successful candidate will be organized and proactive to ensure projects are completed successfully. A hybrid (office and telework combination) work environment is available for this position.
